The Great Pyrenees is one of the oldest breeds of dog in the world descending from livestock guardian dogs over ten thousand years ago in Asia. The are often referred to "Great dogs of the mountain" in their native France and are world-renowned for their loyalty, intelligence and un-wavering courage.
The Pyrenees is a large breed dog, typically averaging 25-32" in height. Its principally white coat gives it a very unique and graceful appearance and is recognized as one of the most beautiful dog breeds in the world. However, centuries of careful and selective breeding has ensured that this dog is not just another pretty face as many an unsuspecting predator has found out when threatening its flock. Properly trained and socialized, they make great pets and protectors of family and flock. It is known to be highly intelligent and it possesses a unique independant personality that is unlike any other breed of dog.
